As of September 4th, 2016 Familias Unidas por la Justicia called for an end of the Driscoll boycott, and all boycott activities. Out of respect for the collective bargaining process with Sakuma Farms please do not contact past, present or potential customers, purchasers, sellers or users of products coming from Sakuma Bros Berry Farm to convey criticism of any and all aspects of Sakuma’s business and operations.
On Sept. 4, 2016 Sakuma Brothers Farms and Familias Unidas por La Justicia mutually agreed to conduct a secret ballot election for union representation on Sakuma Farms. The election was held on Monday Sept. 12th, 2016. The farmworkers voted in favor of being represented by Familias Unidas por la Justicia by a 75% margin. This vote was decisive that the hand harvesters of all the berries would be represented by Familias Unidas por La Justicia in subsequent negotiations for a collective bargaining agreement with Sakuma Farms. After several months of negotiations a union contract was signed in June of 2017.
Thanks to your tireless efforts we entered into the next phase of our union’s development with hope and determination.
